Chris Anderson, the guy who coined the phrase "the long tail", explores the four key stages of any viable technology. To demonstrate, Anderson explores the evolution of the DVD player as it passes through each of these four tipping points, then offers specific examples of current trends in technology.

  • Critical mass - 20% of house holds have one
  • Another technology - displacing an established technology
  • Free (nearly) - becoming ubiquitous
