An article by Pete Engardio in Business Week takes a look at a study published by the National Academies called Innovation in Global Industries.

It argues that "America's lead in creating new products and services has remained remarkably resilient over the past decade — even as more research and development by U.S. companies is done offshore".

While the authors of the report acknowledge their data isn't perfect they believe that even the growth in offshore R&D in the past few years probably isn't enough to affect where the important innovation that is taking place.
